Women's and Men's Health

Physiotherapy treatment is designed to reduce pain, reduce inflammation which leads to further joint deterioration, improve motion at the joint, improve joint alignment, improve muscle stability/strength around the joint, and improve your function. Research has shown that Physiotherapy based exercises significantly improve the symptoms of patients with osteoarthritis.

Women being treated for breast cancer face an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, and lymphedema. Physiotherapy can be initiated before and after surgery, during chemotherapy and /or radiation treatment.  Post-mastectomy Physiotherapy treatments can reduce swelling, improve your shoulder, neck, arm, and trunk motion, improve your strength, improve cardiovascular fitness, and reduce fatigue.

People with diabetes can benefit from exercise prescription involving strength and resistance training, aerobic exercise, and stretching. Exercise improves blood sugar control, increases insulin sensitivity, reduces risk factors related to diabetic long-term complications, and can assist in weight management.

Both men and women can struggle with stress incontinence. Physiotherapy can help with treatment post delivery of children, pre and post prostate surgery, and for pelvic pain post trauma. Stress incontinence occurs when physical movement or activity puts pressure on your bladder. A Physiotherapist can help with stress incontinence by assessing the pelvic floor muscles and then providing strengthening exercises to help regain control of the pelvic floor muscles which support the bladder.

Vertigo or dizziness has been described as a false sense of motion or a nonspecific sensation of altered orientation, spinning, whirling, and light-headedness, or a sense of disequilibrium. It has been proposed that degenerative changes of joint and periarticular soft tissue structures may lead to an altered/ false sense of motion. Physiotherapists perform differentiation tests to determine the cause; and the outcome of these tests determine the treatment plan.
