Do I need to have a doctor's referral?
You do not need a doctor's referral to come to the Ayr Physiotherapy Clinic. Call us directly to book an appointment. The only time a person would need to obtain a doctor's referral is if they are requesting extended health care coverage for their Physiotherapy visits and extended health care company requires a doctor referral. Often people book their Physiotherapy appointment first then book a time to see their doctor to get the referral.
Can I come to your clinic even though I have been referred to another clinic?
You have the complete freedom of choice to go to any Physiotherapy clinic you choose; you do not have to go to the Physiotherapy clinic sometimes stated at the top of the doctor's referral.
Is Physiotherapy covered by extended health care plans?
Physiotherapy is covered by most extended health care companies. The amount of coverage is individual to each person's plan ranging from unlimited annual coverage to a maximum annual amount. Inquire with your extended health care company, if you are uncertain about your coverage.
How long is an initial assessment appointment?
Your initial assessment or first Physiotherapy visit will be 45-60 minutes in length. Please wear clothing that is comfortable when you are moving, and that allows the Physiotherapist to see the part of the body that will be treated.
How many times a week will I need to come?
Plan to come twice a week initially for treatments. As you progress the length of your treatment course will be discussed with you by the Physiotherapist.
Are your services covered by OHIP?
Our services are not covered by OHIP. Physiotherapy assessment and treatments are paid by one of the following: extended health care companies, auto insurance companies (if you were in a car accident, and your extended health care benefits for the year are exhausted), Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB, if you were injured at work and your work claim has been approved), or by the client (if he/she has no extended health care coverage).
Do you provide massage therapy?
Physiotherapists receive, as part of their formal training, instruction on massage. The Physiotherapist can provide massage as part of your treatment but he/she will also incorporate other treatment techniques, such as joint mobilizations, muscle strengthening / stabilization exercise in order to maximize your physical condition.
Can Physiotherapists manipulate joints?
All Physiotherapists can perform some manipulations on peripheral joints, and Part B Physiotherapists ( with FCAMPT credentials after their name) are thoroughly trained and qualified to perform spinal and peripheral joint manipulations.
