Over a lifetime, only approximately 1% of the population escape heachahes completely. Over a year, it is estimated that 90% of the population will get at least one headache. About 16-17% of the population will experience a migraine headache sometime in their life- that means over a billion people worldwide at some point experience pain radiating from their head.
Headaches can be related to cervical, and upper back related postures, joint restrictions, muscle imbalances or weakness, or stress/strain placed on these spinal areas during school, work, or everyday activities. Our Physiotherapists will get to the root of your headache pain. The key to making the diagnosis of any headache is the history given to the Physiotherapist by the client. During the assessment, the Physiotherapist will inquire about your symptoms such as history of trauma to the neck, the pattern of your heachahes, and what variables influence your headache. A biomechanical assessment will be performed.
Treatment may include:
- Joint mobilization
- Stretching and strengthening exercises of the neck muscle/ shoulder blade regions
- Posture re-education
- Pain re-sensitizing strategies
