A bugling disc is a common spine injury wher the disc bulges outside of the space between your vertebrae. This can happen in the lower back upper and mid back and in the neck. As the disc bugles between the vertebrae it can press on a nerve, it may cause pain, tingling and numbness in the area along with radiation down the pathway of the nerve.
Specific moblization and exercises can be used in treatment to relieve muscle tensions, improve joint mobility, and relieve pressure on the disc and nerve that are affected. Ultrasound, laser, heat and cold therapy are effective treatments. Other effective treatments are Transcutaneous Electrical Neuormuscular Stimulation (TENS) and Interferential Current (IFC) stimulation which trigger the release of endorphins and enkephalins, which are the body's natural pain killer.
